Carroll Shelby founded Shelby American in 1962 in Venice, California, after a heart condition ended his racing career. The company produced the Cobra and the GT350/GT500 Mustangs before closing in 1969. Shelby revived the brand in 1995 in Las Vegas, establishing it as Nevada's first licensed automobile manufacturer, and continues to produce Mustang-based performance vehicles and Cobra continuation cars.
